The Future of News
We watched a video in Comms 239 on Tuesday that discussed the future of journalism, specifically newspapers. It's interesting to hear predictions of what will happen to the newspaper industry. I personally believe that newspapers will always be around. That being said, I also think the business will be a lot smaller in twenty years. I think that social media is helping journalism as we know it stay alive. It helps deliver the stories and messages that journalists write to a lot larger audience. There will always be a need for professional journalists. They can devote their time to researching, asking, writing and talking. How else will we know what is going on in our communities, nations, and in the world without journalists? In the future, journalists will rely more and more on other people to get their story out. Social media, for example, will continue to be a way of sharing news and information with others but it requires the journalists to still give us that information.
What is journalism? Who is a journalist?
When I think of journalism, I think of the news. Journalism to me is taking everyday events and sharing them with people in a way that the public would understand and appreciate. It's taking that news and writing/presenting it in such as way that the audience will want to read it and can follow what is going on. A journalist is simply someone who can make that process happen. Someone who can take the news and make it interesting or understandable.
